Cadillac Brake Service In Freeport, NY

Brake service is essential for safe traveling, and our Paul Conte Cadillac team strives to make sure drivers in Freeport, NY, have the smooth stopping power they need. Whether it's just routine brake pad replacement or a more in-depth brake inspection, our dealership's brake service is designed to offer peace of mind and answers. Read on for more details on brake care, and schedule your service visit soon.

What Is Included in Brake Service?

Brake service can include a few different things, such as a simple replacement of the brake pads or a more involved installation of new brake rotors. Your vehicle might also need a brake fluid change or flush. Because so many components make up a vehicle's braking system, and the whole system is vital to safe driving, it's recommended that you stay consistent with brake care.

Brake pads, for example, are the meaty parts that rub against the rotors to stop the vehicle. A fraction of the specialized friction material wears away every time you press the brake pedal, so eventually your pads will be compromised, which can lead to unreliable stopping power and the increased chances of an accident.

Brake rotors are the wheel-mounted discs the pads press against to stop. These components are more expensive but last longer than pads. When you come into our dealership near Bay Shore, we'll inspect the whole assembly to see where any issues may arise or determine the scope of brake care.

When Is It Time To Get Brake Service or Brake Replacement?

Brake service includes several components, so we recommend an annual brake inspection. However, after a few years – when you have driven between 30,000 and 60,000 miles – you'll likely need a pad-specific Cadillac brake replacement.

Brake rotors may need to be resurfaced or replaced after around 60,000 miles, and a brake fluid flush may be necessary every two years.

Between milestones – or if you've missed a maintenance visit for your braking system – keep your senses alert for any symptoms that your braking system may not be optimal. These signs can include:

  • Spongy brake pedal
  • Sluggish acceleration
  • Illuminated brake light indicator
  • Burning smells when braking

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do I need to have my brakes serviced?

Brakes will need to be inspected at least annually, though some service or care may be needed at different intervals. Brake pads, for example, are a consumable product and wear out with time – these need to be replaced after driving between 30,000 and 60,000 miles. Brake rotors may need work or replacement after 60,000 miles; a brake fluid flush or change is suggested every other year.

How long does it take to replace car brakes?

Replacing car brakes can be a time-consuming process, depending on the scope of the work. If you're just having your brake pads replaced, you can generally expect to have the vehicle back on the same day. However, other services may take longer. If rust is present, the work may take even longer. Our specialists near Smithtown can provide a more thorough time estimate.

How can I prevent my brakes from wearing out?

To prevent your brakes from wearing out, it's crucial to adopt conservative driving habits and careful handling. Slowly coming to a stop and avoiding slamming on the brakes are two ways to maximize the lifespan of your braking system. Additionally, we recommend staying consistent with your vehicle's brake care through regular checkups and inspections.

Exceptional customer service. Jim went above and beyond for my used car purchase. Had it serviced and cleaned prior to pickup. Accommodated every request, constant updates to keep you in the loop, and very forthcoming about the price and paperwork. I especially appreciate how he wasn't pushy about the warranty.

Ryan from the Service and department (and the rest of his team) is always very professional and courteous. I drive an old Cadillac and he’s always looking out for me and offering great recommendations and tips. He gives genuine advice and does not try to upsell me things I didn’t need. Anthony from the Parts department is also very friendly and kind. He also did not attempt to upsell me parts that I did not need and made an extra effort to help me find parts I that I was inquiring about. Overall, my experience at Paul Conte Cadillac dealership has been very great and exceeded my experience. The lounge area is small but sufficient for the amount of folks. Simple coffee machine does the job and toilet is clean. Keep it up!
